Gynecomastia - Liposuction of the chest

Gynaecomastia can be emotionally devastating. Feelings of shame, embarrassment and humiliation are common. One does not feel masculine in a society where masculinity is exalted. Self-hate threads itself through all aspects of the individual's life. A man or boy with gynaecomastia struggles with anxiety over such simple acts as taking off his shirt at the beach.

For many men, the best solution is surgery.

Liposuction is the process of contouring the body through the removal of fat. A long, hollow, blunt, metal canula (tube) is inserted through small incisions and fat is removed using a vacuum suction devise. This allows sculpting those diet and exercise resistant areas to achieve the figure that you desire. Liposuction can help sculpt the body. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

The most common areas treated on men with liposuction - are the chest (sometimes to treat a condition known as (gynecomastia), the flanks or “love handles” and the abdomen. Gynaecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect only one breast or both. For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast reduction surgery can help.

Am I a Candidate for Male Liposuction?

he best liposuction candidates are men who are healthy overall, in reasonably good shape, but have some stubborn areas that are resistant to improvement with diet and exercise. In some cases, men who are heavier may be candidates for large volume liposuction.Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss - it is a contouring procedure for areas of the body that are diet and exercise resistant. These would include the abdomen and flanks in men. The chest and back, and are also areas that liposuction can be effective. You should have realistic expectations for what the procedure can achieve in your case.

Procedure

Liposuction uses a number of very small incisions - about ¼ inch each - placed at various sites to allow insertion of the canula. These are often not even closed since they will seal all by themselves and fade to almost nothing in about a year.

Recovery

For most people, liposuction recovery is very comfortable. Most likely you will simply feel a bit sore. Depending on the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed, men take between two days and a week or so off from work following the procedure. You will have some swelling and some bruising, and this begins to go down a few days following the procedure.
